If you've been in my classes lately, you've heard me talk about the book OUTLIVE: The Science and Art of Longevity by Dr. Peter Attia. It's a very thorough look at the things we need to be doing RIGHT NOW, at any age from our teens through our 60s and 70s in order to do the things we want to be doing in our 80s and 90s. 

Here's the thing:

Exercise is the key to all of it. The science is indisputable. As I read through the book, time and time again, I felt so proud of what we're doing at Crew. 

Dr. Attia outlines 4 areas of fitness to improve our healthspan, or the number of years we live mentally well and disease free. 

Let’s check them out:

1. Cardio: This is the foundation of health and fitness. It's exercise for the most important muscle of all: your HEART.

2. Strength: Lifting weights keeps bone density, as well as builds muscle. Our muscles are like a RETIREMENT SAVINGS for our bodies. Build them up now so that we'll have plenty in reserve as we age. 

CHECK. WE LIFT WEIGHTS IN EVERY CLASS!

3. VO2 Max: This is how much oxygen you can push through your body at max capacity.. and it happens to correlate highly with how long you might live. VO2 Max is increased by pushing your fitness to its limit, through sprints and short bursts of intensity. 

CHECK. WE DO THAT TWICE A WEEK!

4. Stability: Building our stabilizer muscles and training our bodies to move well will keep us sturdy as we age. We build stability and mobility through stretching and using movements like lunges, split squats, and planks.
