Introducing MyZone

Introducing MyZone

Crew Fitness is excited to introduce the MyZone heart rate monitoring system to our program.

Myzone is a chest strap heart-rate monitoring system that displays heart rate, calories, time and effort to a monitor in our studio or to the Myzone App on your own device, while simultaneously creating an online logbook of all physical activity that you can access from your own device anywhere in the world.

Myzone users can:

  • Exercise inside and outside of a facility while their effort activity is recorded.
  • Login online anywhere and track their activity and progress.
  • Earn Myzone Effort Points (MEPs) for every minute of physical activity.
  • Participate in challenges based on physical activity and measure results.
  • Achieve goals by utilizing heart rate intensity feedback

Check out this video explaining the system-

How will MyZone be used at Crew Fitness?

MyZone is a tool our Crewmates can choose to adopt or not. It’ll never be required at Crew. The MyZone system provides you with personalized, accurate information about your workout – in both real time, and in the form of a detailed report about each workout. It’s fun to see how hard you’re working! And you can use the information you receive from MyZone to make adjustments to your nutrition or your fitness regimen.

You can order your MyZone monitor in the studio for $120, and we will have it in within 5-7 business days. As soon as it comes in, we’ll register it using your body metrics and it’ll be ready for use!

The Health Dare 2018

The Health Dare 2018

WE DARE YOU to lose weight.

WE DARE YOU to change your fitness.

WE DARE YOU to reach your health goals.

Take the Crew Fitness Health Dare! The Health Dare is a 4-week weight-loss challenge for new and current rowers that dare to commit to healthy eating and exercise from March 1 - March 31. We will offer SPECIAL PRICING of $100 UNLIMITED ROWING for the month of March (applies to any rowers who are NOT under current contract.) Health Dare participants will commit to rowing 17 classes during the month of March, and Crew Cash prizes will be awarded to the 5 rowers that lose the most weight (based on percentage of total body weight) over the course of the challenge.

We will also offer optional PERSONALIZED nutrition plans for $25 to help you meet your goals. These plans will be based on your goals, current weight, body mass, age, height, sex, and activity level. Based on these factors, Crew Fitness will recommend a total daily caloric intake, as well as the percentage of each macronutrient (carbs, protein, fat) that you should consume to reach those goals. AND we'll teach you how to track your intake using My Fitness Pal.

Those that purchase the nutrition plan will have the option to attend a quick seminar on Saturday, March 3 at 9:45 to learn how to use My Fitness Pal, what types of foods we should be eating, and what to expect over the course of the 4 weeks. Click here to purchase the nutrition plan, and then follow the instructions in your emailed receipt about submitting your info so that you can receive your individualized plan. You'll also need to sign into the nutrition seminar.

The details:

  • Our initial weigh in will happen anytime during the first week of March.

  • Final weigh in must happen March 29-31.

  • Your weight will always be kept private between you and your coach unless you wish to share that information.

  • The nutrition plan is OPTIONAL and costs $25. Purchase it here, and then email your age, weight, height, and goals to carrie@crew-fitness.com.

  • Weight loss achievements will be based on percentage of total body weight lost. E.g., if your initial weigh-in is 200 lbs., and you lose 10 pounds, you’ve lost 5% of your total body weight.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st place: $150 Crew Cash
2nd place: $100 Crew Cash
3rd place: $75 Crew Cash
4th place: $50 Crew Cash

Hurricane Harvey Relief

Hurricane Harvey Relief

Hurricane Harvey has brought an unprecedented onslaught of rain to Houston. Residents throughout the city are being forced to their roofs, seeking boat and helicopter rescue. Our own Dan Strange, U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, is working rescue operations tirelessly, and we salute his service and his bravery.

FD7B5797-511B-4444-B084-F65A39DBCA53.JPG

We are praying for Houston and for the health and safety of everyone affected by the storm, as well as the men and women working on rescue operations and the relief effort.

We are also asking for donations to Global Giving’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Giving is easy through the Global Giving website. In addition to your donations, Crew Fitness MOB will donate 50 cents each time you check into Crew on Facebook or geo tag us in your photos on Instagram. Use the hashtags #hurricaneharveyrelief and #checkinforcharity with your post.

Dan and Marcia’s home did not flood; they do have power; and they are safe. We are thankful for their health and for Dan’s service, and we pray for Marcia's peace of mind as Dan presses on fulfilling his life's calling - a true hero, rescuing our fellow citizens from their flooded homes. Show them support with your check-ins and give them a shout-out when you make your posts!

In Honor of Baby Lucy

In Honor of Baby Lucy

Sweet baby Lucy Lynn Brannan lived 89 precious days with her mother, long-time Crew member Jodi Brannan. Lucy was diagnosed with a rare condition called congenital diaphragmatic hernia before she was even born. Jodi and her husband David found the best doctors in the world to treat this condition, and Jodi relocated to Philadelphia at 6-months pregnant to give Lucy her best chance at life. Her family here in Mobile helped David care for their two other children, Caden (8) and Carter (2) for the remainder of her pregnancy, as well as throughout Lucy's precious little life.

Lucy survived an experimental in-utero surgery, and was born on March 25. Every day presented new challenges, but Lucy continued to surprise her doctors and her family. In the end, after fighting for 89 days in the the Nic-U at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Lord called her home on June 22.

We have prayed for this family and this baby, and we will continue to do so as they lift their baby up to her eternal home in Heaven. Crew Fitness will be accepting donations for Jodi and her family as they cope with the loss of their child, as well as the burden that being displaced for months has left on their family. All contributions will go directly to the Brannan family. Come by Crew anytime this week to make a donation.

Jodi - your Crew of support is bigger than you’ll ever know.

Much love,
Crew Fitness

3 New and Awesome Additions to Our Team

3 New and Awesome Additions to Our Team

Crew Fitness is excited to welcome Cindy Taylor, Madison Perry, and Emily Higdon to our team of coxswains. A coxswain is the person on a Crew team that calls instructions and power strokes for the rowers in a boat. At Crew Fitness, our qualified instructors earn the title coxswain as they direct us toward our fitness goals.

Cindy comes to us with 16 years experience in the fitness industry, teaching cycling, among other fitness experiences. After taking her class, one Crew rower described her like this: “She seems sweet, but she’s a firecracker!” Cindy will make it her mission to see to it that you get a great workout in each of her classes. Cindy describes her approach to nutrition as MODERATION, MODERATION, MODERATION. She says, “diets are temporary but moderation is forever.”

Madison earned her degree in Kinesiology at the University of Alabama. She grew up in gymnastics and cheerleading, and she has coached 2 special needs cheer squads. One Crew class, and Madison was hooked! She also says that Crew has quickly increased her endurance, and that anyone looking for a new and exciting way to work out should come straight to Crew Fitness!

Emily earned her degree in exercise science from the University of South Alabama, where she played softball on scholarship. She also rides horses and works at the Blue Gill. She says Crew has inspired her to take her own fitness to a new level, as she trains for the upcoming Spartan race!
